Fostering Brilliance

In the world of public school gifted education, IQ test scores work as a gatekeeper. This is measured by a standardized test that is not without bias. Those who score at or above a certain percentile are welcomed into the club and those who score below are excluded. With such high-stakes testing in use, it’s understandable that parents might come to view IQ scores as a predictor of success. But to quote sociologist William Bruce Cameron, “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.”

Foundation Vaccination Clinic - Toronto Public Health
Consent forms due November 28
Vaccination clinic December 4

Toronto Public Health will be on site at UTS on December 4 to provide school vaccinations to F1 students. Consent forms were sent home on November 16. If not already returned, please return the completed consent forms to the Main Office by Tuesday, November 28. Extra consent forms are also available at the Main Office in case your child did not receive one. 
F2 students are also invited to participate if they are missing any of their own vaccinations. Please read the Toronto Public Health letter about the process. If seeking exemption from the vaccinations, click here to find out how. Exemptions are decided by Toronto Public Health.


AP Exam Payment Due
November 24, 2023

On-time AP exam registration is now closed. Parents can access invoices and pay for exams using the Parent Portal.  

Payments are due tomorrow - Friday, November 24. Late payments will be subject to additional fees (AP Fee Overview 2023-24).

Families are encouraged to ensure the invoices match the exams their students want to write (students will only be registered for AP exams appearing on the invoice).

Drama Night
December 12

Join us for an evening of theatre on Tuesday, December 12 at 6 p.m. in the Jackman Theatre! It’s a double bill of two exciting productions: our Junior Theatre Ensemble will perform Duncan MacMillan’s Every Brilliant Thing, and our Senior Drama class will perform an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector. Canadian University Application Reminders
December 1

S6 students who wish to be considered for major scholarships at institutions such as UBC and McGill must submit their university application before December 1. Counsellors encourage all S6 students to complete their initial OUAC (Ontario) application before November 27, and to take note of other scholarship and university-specific deadlines.


S5/S6 Core French Excursion to see Les Misérables

Students in Mme Amiot’s M4 and Mme Kelly’s S5 Core French classes are invited to participate in an excursion to see Les Misérables on March 27, 2024! Keep an eye out for the field trip information sent to parents this week.

Expression of Interest due January 12, 2024

Current F2 and M3 students who are interested in participating in the UTS Language Exchange Program during the 2024-25 academic year are asked to fill in this form, which is due by Friday, January 12, 2024.

Volunteers Needed for Fulford Debate

UTS is hosting the Fulford International Debate on January 13, 2024.

As part of this experience, UTS is looking for 50 volunteers to help judge the debates and provide feedback to the participants.
