Fostering Brilliance

As an institution of learning, we strive to have better, healthier and deeper conversations with our students and our community that foster a sense of connection and wholeness. In the classroom, in meetings or even casual conversations, we honour what others bring to the table, listen to the ideas brought forward and pave the way for deeper, more meaningful conversations.

Hosting Opportunity

We are looking for a few more families to host a German student from June 21 to July 2.

Last June, 15 UTS students enjoyed a great homestay program in Germany and we are asking our community to reciprocate that hospitality.

The visiting students all speak excellent English and will be taking part in a Maximum City program daily from Monday to Friday.

UTS will arrange ‘getting to know each other’ activities and some sightseeing. Host families provide a supportive homestay for students. If your family is open to new experiences please consider hosting one of the friendly students from our partner school in Frankfurt.

Simply complete this expression of interest form and we will get back to you with the details.

Online Safety Sessions

Paul Davis, a leading expert in cyber security and social media, educates students, teachers, parents and law enforcement organizations on the ways children can be safe online.

Paul explains the dangers inherent in online social behaviour, and provides guidance and suggestions to help children engage safely and responsibly.

We encourage parents to engage in conversations with their children following these important sessions.

Presentations will be made as follows:

February 26, 2024 - M3

April 23, 2024 - M4, S5, S6

May 6, 2024 - F1, F2

Wellness Session for Parents: March 4, 2024

As teenagers enter a new phase of life, parents enter a new phase of parenting. Adolescence is a time filled with excitement, exploration and identity development. Brains are changing rapidly, and won’t be fully developed for a few more years, meaning that although they may be more independent, they are not just mini adults.

The UTS Social Work Team and UTSPA Wellness Committee would like to invite interested parents to join us for a virtual session on March 4 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss parenting in the teenage years.

We will be looking through the registration form responses for themes to address, and we hope parents bring some of what they have found helpful and enjoyed about parenting in the teenage years to share as well.

To get everyone’s thoughts flowing, here is an article from well known clinical psychologist Lisa Damour.

Classroom Invitation to Artists and Designers

Are you working as a designer, artist, architect or in other creative roles? Are you interested in sharing some of your creative process and insights with UTS students? The Visual Arts department is interested in hosting UTS community members in our art classrooms and would appreciate your involvement. Are you able to:

  • Explore how you navigate the creative process in your work, sharing visual examples?

  • Discuss some of the challenges and rewards you’ve encountered in your work?

  • Examine your path (experience, school, career) and advise how students might reach a similar place one day?

If so, please take a few minutes to complete this form. There’s no commitment - just the start of a conversation.

UTS Charity Week is March 5 to 8

Each year, the Student Outreach Coordinators (SOCs) and Student Ambassador Council (SAC) engage in a week of fundraising in support of a local charity. This year’s organisation is Dashmaawaan Bemaadzinjin (They Feed the People), an Indigenous catering company using profits to support Indigenous seniors and unhoused folks.

There will be lunchtime fundraising events all week, from a mystery book shop to food sales! In addition, the SOC/SAC team is organizing a raffle and are seeking donations of goods and experiences.

Please drop off any donations at the main office of UTS (371 Bloor Street West), labelled for UCW, by March 1. If you would like your family to be recognized for the donation, please also label with your child’s name and grade, or leave it unlabelled to remain anonymous!

Raffle tickets will be sold to students at lunch from March 5 to 8, with the final draw on March 8. Be sure to send your student to school with cash in hand!

Support the UTS Bursary Fund

You can help students pursue their UTS education!

It is projected that $2.3 million will be needed in bursary support for the 2024-25 school year.

While the annual bursary endowment proceeds will provide approximately $1.8 million in financial assistance, an additional $500,000 is needed to meet the needs of our students.

Your generosity and kindness can help provide students what they need to achieve their dreams and goals by removing financial barriers.

Your gift to UTS is critical to the success of UTS students.
