Fostering Brilliance

This Sunday, red dresses will hang across the country in recognition of the missing and murdered Indigenous women and children. This stark reminder of the ongoing tragedy points to the need for education and action if solutions are to be found.

The symbol of the red dress began fourteen years ago when Métis artist Jamie Black first hung hundreds of red dresses in public spaces with her REDress Project, using art as a powerful statement to draw attention to an ongoing tragedy in our country. The empty red dresses are a visceral symbol of what is missing and what has been lost – the thousands of murdered and missing Canadian Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people who never came home. Protests on U of T Campus

As is happening on many university campuses, there is currently a protest on the U of T St. George campus. While the protest appears non-violent at this time, we encourage students to avoid areas of U of T if they see protests or encampments. We ask that you have a conversation at home to confirm your children understand they should avoid protest areas and if appropriate for your family and child, the context of what is taking place. While we are aware of the potential for protests to occur in the weeks ahead, we do not anticipate that our area will be impacted. We will work closely with campus security should anything change and will keep parents informed as needed.

Reminder: No stopping in the laneway south of the school

Using the laneway south of the parking lot for dropping off or picking up students is strictly prohibited.

The UTS Code of Conduct refers to our responsibility as members of the UTS community, and this expectation extends to supporting our commitment to the University and its bylaws. Both residents and University of Toronto staff are increasingly frustrated by UTS parents and guardians not respecting parking laws. Any cars found stopping in the laneway are subject to being tagged or towed by the city.
For the safety of our students and community, and our good relations with the University, we also ask that parents and guardians avoid dropping off/picking up students on Bloor Street, and be sure not to stop on Huron Street or Washington Street unless you are pulled up directly alongside the curb. These streets do not provide enough space to stop safely without impacting traffic.

Nearby options include Sussex Ave. to the south, or alternatives such as public transit, cycling or walking to school.

Final Exam Schedule F2 to S6
June 10 to June 17

Final Exams for all students taking credit courses (F2 to S6)  will occur between June 10 and June 17. Final exams count towards the 30% Summative Mark for all credit courses. Here is the schedule for 2024 Final Exams. The only reason a student may miss an exam is for illness and in the case of illness, the student will need a doctor’s note acknowledging they were unable to write the exam due to illness, and need to write the exam later. All exams must be completed for the student to obtain their credit. Vacations or other activities are not viable reasons to write exams late (or early). Please contact academics@utschools.ca if you have questions.
