Fostering Brilliance
Ain’t I a woman? Four simple words combine to form a powerful question that provokes our sensibility. First attributed to Soujourner Truth in 1851, and then used in 1981 by feminist author and cultural critic bell hooks, these words were employed to challenge the way women, and particularly Black women, were discounted and made to feel invisible. Lest we think these problems are historic, I’d like to share the experience of MIT researcher, poet and computer scientist Dr. Joy Buolamwini who was compelled to pose the same question in her spoken word performance, “Ain’t I a Woman?” in 2015.
Joy has a PhD from MIT. She is a Rhodes Scholar, Fulbright Scholar and Founder of the Algorithmic Justice League who found that no amount of high academic achievement protected her from the discriminatory power and frightening social implications of artificial intelligence. Read more→

Glaze Implementation Report Communication
As UTS continues to strive to ensure that anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion are interwoven into the fabric of our school, we are also committed to accountability and transparency. The latest Glaze Implementation Report provides the updates on our progress towards creating a greater culture of inclusion for all of our students. Our work is guided by and builds on recommendations laid out by Dr. Avis Glaze OOnt in her January 2022 report for UTS, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Our Shared Responsibility. As always, we invite you to reach out with any questions you may have about our work to date or moving forward.
Contact Teachers by Phone
Due to a change in the phone provider and system at U of T, UTS will no longer be providing individual teacher phone numbers. As a result, if a parent/guardian would like to contact a teacher they should email the teacher directly (see the Staff Directory) or call the Main Office at 416-978-3212 to share a message.

UTS will arrange ‘getting to know each other’ activities and some sightseeing. Host families provide a supportive homestay for students from June 21 to July 2. Simply complete this expression of interest form and we will get back to you with the details.
